Byakko

Wares gatherer, plant enthusiast, and Jewellery maker
Byakko was there leaning against a wall daggers laying on the cold hard brick ground with the edge coated in blood while Byakko seems to have blood dripping from a freshly made wound right through his leather outfit about eight inches long. Trying to gather his balance using the wall behind him he stumbles along the wall before collapsing down to th— wait this isn’t where the story starts. We must go back to the past prior to these events, back to where it all started.
Byakko wasn’t always an orphan however his parents died while he was still very young. Byakko was with a family friend at the time of their death that he called uncle Marcus. Marcus had agreed to take in Byakko after their passing and was convinced he could keep him safe from harm due to him being part of the Imperial army. This could not last forever unfortunately as Marcus had to face the inevitable that sooner or later he would be called off to fight in the civil war against the stormcloaks. Once this happened Byakko was being forced to living in the nearby orphanage in the nearby city of Riften. Not having any real reason to dislike the city since he had never been inside it himself and only heard of rumours.
It wasn’t long before he began to hate living there but kept telling himself “Uncle Marcus will be back any day now to get me out of here.” Day after day went by being forced to clean and being beat if he spoke back in anyway or shirked his chores. There weren't many children there giving him almost no chance to get away with anything while he was there. Three months had gone by when Byakko had begun to accept that Marcus wasn’t coming for him and if he was to get out of here he would need to do it himself.
Byakko began planning his escape as he completed his duties day in and day out until he came up with a plan he was sure would work. If he failed he would surely be shackled to the walls and beaten. The last children to go to the wall behind closed doors never came back out, however, he did not let this change his mind in needing to escape from this hell hole they call “Honorhall Orphanage” ran by Grelod the kind and I assure you there was no kindness nor any honour to be found there. Byakko had finally come up with his plan for his means of escape.
The day had come when he would break out and he went through his normal day of duties making small subtle changes to help in his escape later that night including stealing a few coins so he would be able to get something decent to eat for the first time in months. When the day had come to its end the children were sent to their hard cold itchy beds. Byakko had decided to rest for a little while to regain his strength due to the poor meals and harsh work load every day. Once regaining his strength he decided it was time to make his move and waited for Grelod to go to her room and slowly snuck out of the bed being careful not make it or the floor creak. Once out of the bed he would plump up some of the hay that he had swept up prior over the past week to make it appear as if he was still in the bed to avoid any suspicion. Next, he would move on to staying crouched and slowly making his way to the door when Grelod had awoken. As she opened the door Byakko silently rolled into the pantry and closed the doors quietly with hopes that he wasn’t seen. After a few moments had passed he heard Grelod's doors close, grabbed an apple and made his move sticking to the shadows while rolling to the front door.
Byakko spent his night staying out of sight from guards for fear that they would bring him right back to the orphanage. Once day broke he knew he would need to start thinking about how he would get his next meal and keep himself going. Byakko began to pickpocket coin, food, and anything he could get a hold of to keep himself fed. He had developed a skill of knowing if someone had anything worth stealing just by looking at them. One evening a newcomer had come into to town to open a jewelry shop. Obviously, he would have valuables or at least much coin so Byakko wouldn’t need to worry about eating for quite awhile so he followed him to The Bee and Barb.
Once things were busy and he was sure the jewelry maker was sound asleep Byakko went up the stairs quietly to avoid being seen and made his way to the merchant's room. He managed to pick the lock open with great ease and there it was. A big wooden box with many flawless jewels surely enough to keep him fed for months! That was not all, however, a large coin purse laid beside the box without doubt also belonged to the new merchant in town. Byakko checked his surroundings to make sure it clear and he reached for the box and the purse only to be caught for the first time since he started stealing. Byakko put on the tough cat act trying to intimidate. The merchant was able to tell from looking at him he must have been an orphan and must have been stealing to feed himself and so gave the little khajiit an offer. He offered him an apprenticeship to learn how to make his own jewelry and to keep him fed in exchange he must promise to give up this life of running around on the streets stealing anything and everything or he would be back out on his own again. Byakko kept up his tough cat face for a moment before accepting his offer. After all, it's gotta be better than going back to the orphanage right?.
It has been quite a few years now since Byakko had accepted the merchant's offer and for the first time since his parents died, he’s been happy with his life. He has learned to provide for himself making honest days wage working as jeweler under his master’s supervision at first until he was able to make things flawlessly. Even making simple jewelry was tougher than Byakko had initially expected but he kept at it and kept food in his belly with a roof over his head. His master had been open and honest from day one making him someone Byakko was able to trust. Eventually, Byakko was told to do the bookings and place the orders only to notice over the past few weeks sales have been dropping lowering any funds they’d be able to purchase material with. Master assured him that sales dropping from time to time were a normal thing and to not worry about it.
A couple more months pass and Byakko continued watching the bookings as the sales kept dropping week after week. If this kept up the shop would surely go under. Master had to acknowledge this fact sooner or later so Byakko began thinking how he can help keep the business afloat. While laying in bed Byakko decided that he must go back to thieving but this time for materials so the business would need to spend less each time in hopes it would be enough time for the business to bloom again. He wouldn’t get caught after all his master was the only person to ever catch him stealing and that was only when he was stealing from him. It’s been decided Byakko that would steal again to help the shop in its time of need.
The stealing started with an ingot here an ingot there and nobody would notice. Soon he would step it up and begin stealing rings and necklaces and launder them so he wouldn’t get caught by smelting them down in metals to be used and popping the gems out. Eventually, Master grew suspicion and stayed up only to catch Byakko bringing in some materials with the intention of smelting it down. Byakko begged and explained how he did it for him and to help the business but it made no difference as he was kicked out anyway for breaking the agreement.
Byakko went to The Bee and Barb for the rest of the night and started drinking feeling sorry for himself when he was approached by a hooded figure he had never seen before. This hooded figure ordered himself a drink and confirmed the identity of Byakko saying he’s been watching him for awhile now. The mysterious man claims that he knows of Byakko’s skills and gives him an offer that could save the jewelry business and get him out of town to start a new life. This, of course, peeked his interest and listened in on the details on what he was supposed to do. It was simply his part consisted of meeting up to take the bag of loot and deliver to someone outside the city. In exchange, he would get a handsome cut to start a new life. He had to accept with the business going down hill, being kicked out and left with nowhere to go and soon nothing to eat.
The night had come for the job and suited up in an all black leather outfit to help keep from being seen. He waited and waited and nobody arrived only raising his suspicion level. Once the hooded man arrived he wasn’t alone, in fact, Byakko noticed how he there appeared to be one hiding behind him around the corner. The man told him the heist was postponed another night due to some complications. This rose a red flag and knew that something wasn’t right. Byakko was right as when the hooded man and his accomplice began to leave when the character from behind lunged from behind with a poison tipped dagger. Using his khajiit reflexes he was able to avoid the blow whilst getting behind him and putting a dagger of his own to the killer's throat and said: “You wear your cowardice well.” He then proceeded to give him a choice. Drop the dagger and he will let all of them leave free of harm or he would slit his throat where he stood. The hooded man to his accomplice to make it quick. The man ran at Byakko so he slit his throat and took the other guy down to the ground and gave him the option to walk away. During this time The hooded man was able to pick up the poisoned tipped dagger ripping open his flesh with an eight-inch wound. The hooded man and his accomplice take off in the night while Byakko is left poisoned and bleeding on the ground yelling back at them “You wear your sin like it’s some kind of prize!”
Left now bleeding and poisoned pulling himself along the wall he lost his balance and collapsed. Trying to pull himself along thinking to himself how this was is it for him and blacked out. Byakko soon regained consciousness lying in a bed with his former jewelry master beside him. Byakko asks how he got here and the master told him how he was out that night and found a body lying in the road and went to see if he was okay only to his surprise see that it was Byakko. He then went on to explain how he had some basic restoration training and was able to pull out the poison from his body and close up the wound. Byakko showed his gratitude and explained what went down that night ending with an apology for not being able to help save the store. Master explained how he had a plenty of money from when he use to be an adventurer and that’s why he was never worried about the store's funds. As soon as Byakko was well enough he got up and left in the night leaving a coin purse on the table with a note saying “Thank you for all you help over the years, taking me in when I needed it most. All your teachings will live on with me but for now, there is something I must do.” Byakko refers to how he must start a new life and what he must do is stop those that will or have murdered in the past without cause. Byakko means to stop people before more innocents get killed and more children end up in that nightmare known in Riften as Honorhall Orphanage.
Byakko will need a cover during the day while he hunts down those that are “sinners” in his eyes. His cover would be a traveling merchant that made his own jewelry.
